In 1958 a small theatre of small forms was founded in the area of the former night wine bar. This happened in the period of overall political relief. The Reduta Theatre became the first of the new wave of “small theatres“ coming into existence, which deeply and significantly influenced the theatre development of its time and the following decades.

The performances in the REDUTA Theatre were a peculiar form of the modern literary vaudeville and they were called “Text-Appeals“. Their aim was to influence people as directly as possible through a text that was told, performed or sung.

Authors Ivan Vyskočil and Jiří Suchý worked here in the 60s. Ivan Vyskočil´s  so-called Non-Theatre was established here. The activity of the theatre became complicated due to the Soviet occupation.

At present, the dramaturgic concept delierately admits following the tradition of Text-Appeals and, in their performances, it would like to become what REDUTA has been for ages – a place of clever humour and intellectual movement.
