COMEDY THEATRE – PRAGUE CHAMBER THEATRE

Information, reservations and a gate to the theatre. We perform contemporary authors, contemporary topics about contemporary people, contemporary actors and contemporary directors, designers, and musicians. We arrange scenic reading, music evenings, opening days, concerts, and film projections.

The Comedy Theatre has been operating the Prague Chamber Theatre (PKD) since 2002. This entity was established in 1998 and it has proved its high artistic and professional level by a number of its productions in the past years.

On the stage of the Comedy Theatre you can meet famous actors of all generations, dramatic texts presented nearly exclusively in a Czech or world premiere as well as projects which work with elements of the modern movement theatre or reflect the distinct tendencies of the current music or artistic events. The performed plays are already a part of the present classical repertoire in the majority of European countries. The Comedy Theatre thus completes the spectrum of Prague and Czech theatres with a constant presentation of works by the biggest post-war Central European playwrights such as Thomas Bernhard, Werner Schwab, George Tabori or Elfriede Jelinek (Nobel Prize Winner for literature). Apart from this main dramaturgic line, which forms the basic ideological framework of the repertoire, there are projects of the “Open Theatre“, co-productive projects or guest performances, carefully selected according to the overall concept and image of the theatre. The determining element is, unlike in case of repertory kinds of theatres, not only an actor´s troupe, but strong and clear dramaturgy, artistic variety and a strong producer attitude towards programme formation.
