SAINT CLIMENT CATHEDRAL
Karlova Street, Klementinum, Old Town, Prague 1
This cathedral lies on the Royal path, currently property of the Greek Orthodox Church, represented one of the three sanctuaries of the Jesuit track in the Clementine and built it in the years 1711 – 1715 by A. Lurago according to F. M. Kaňka’s plans as a plain single-aisle with a divided ceiling, holding the statue of St. Climent by F. I. Weiss from year 1735. The visitor’s mind should be primarily set on the interior.
It predominates with statues by M. B. Braun from the period of about 1715, paintings by I. Raab and mural paintings on the theme of St. Climent’s life, which were placed in the dome by J. Hiebl. The side altars, the pulpit, the confessional and organ loft all primarily deserve attention, all with sculptures by M.B. Braun from 1716 – 1721 and the picture of St. Linhart from P.J. Brandl from year 1716. The stucco decorations from 1713 - 1715 are the work of S. Gőtzler, main, illusive, altar painted in year 1760 by J. Kramolín.This cathedral is known for its excellent acoustics, where the original baroque organ from the 18th century predominates.
