Jubilee Synagogue

Nové Město, Jeruzalémská 7

Prague`s biggest and also newest synagogue was built in the pseudo - Moorish style between June 26, 1905 and September 6, 1906 under the supervision of builder Alois Richter according to the project of an experienced synagogue designer Wilhelm Stiassny. The name "Jubilee" was put forward by the Israelite Association in memory of the 50th anniversary of the rule of Franz Josef I. This association also purchased the building lot for the synagogue. In 1907, its ownership was transferred from the Association to the Prague Jewish community. It has been an active synagogue ever since its inception with the exception of the period of Nazi occupation. Following the first major renovation in the 1990`s, the temple ceremonially opened in 1996.
