MUNICIPAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT
MUNICIPAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The Municipal Public Transport is represented by four kinds of transport in Prague:
By underground
By trams
By bus
The same fare applies to all of these means of transport.
UNDERGROUND
The Prague Underground is made up of three lines, which intersect in the centre of the city. They are marked with letters and they differ in colour.
Line A (green) - Dejvická – Depot Hostivař
Line B (yellow) - Černý most – Zličín
Line C (red) - Ládví - Háje
Important stations:
Muzeum (Wenceslas Square) – Lines A and C intersect here
Můstek (Wenceslas Square) – Lines A and B intersect here
Florenc (bus station) – Lines B and C intersect here
Staroměstská (near Old Town Square) – Line A
Hlavní nádraží (Main Station) (railway station) – Line C
The Underground operates daily from 5.00 am to 0.00 pm. The time interval between train departures is 2-3 minutes in the rush hour, 4-10 minutes off-peak.
Buy a ticket in advance and mark it BEFORE the entrance to the Underground hall, it is not possible to do so on the train!!

TRAMS
Trams are ideal for those who want to get around Prague using municipal public transport and see something at the same time, too. Although they are not as fast as the Underground, they have got their charm.
Trams operate daily from 4.30 am to 0.00 pm, lines No. 51 – 59 ensure transport at night from 0.00 pm to 4.30 am at intervals of 30 minutes. Night trams intersect at “Lazarská” Stop – near Wenceslas Square. You can find tram timetables at individual stops.
Buy a ticket in advance and mark it in the marking device inside the tram!
BUSES
Buses provide transport further from the centre – they go to more remote parts of Prague.
Buses operate from 4.30 am to 0.30 pm during the day, from 0.30 pm to 4.30 am at night the operation is provided by night lines. You can find bus timetables at individual stops.
Buy a ticket in advance and mark it in the marking device inside the bus!
We recommend a trip by funicular to Petřín particularly to romantic souls. From that place, there is a magnificent view of Prague and you will undestand immediately why it is called hundred-spired. You can go for a pleasant stroll via the Strahov Monastery to the Prague Castle.
You can use municipal public transport (MHD) only if you have a valid ticket. Passengers have to obtain a ticket before they get on a vehicle of surface municipal public transport or before they enter the transport area of the Underground or funicular to Petřín. A ticket is valid provided that it has been marked in the marking device.
If you travel more frequently, it is convenient to use long-term season tickets, it is more convenient to use single tickets for irregular travelling. We can recommend tickets which are valid for 1, 3, 7 and 15 days to visitors to Prague.

TICKET INSPECTION
A ticket inspector can check the validity of your ticket at any time during a ride or stay in the transport area of the Underground. If you do not have a ticket, you have to pay a fine of 950.00 CZK – if you pay it on the spot or within 15 days, the fine is decreased to 500.00 CZK. Watch out for false ticket inspectors.
